Design Lab.Interfaces people understand the first time.

We research, design and systematise product interfaces, then hand them to engineering as tokens and components rather than pictures. Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA is a requirement of the design, not a test at the end.

01What we build

What the Design Lab builds.

Archetypes, named by what they do. Every engagement also carries the standards we apply in every lab.

  1. 01

    Product UI for complex work

Dense, professional interfaces for operations, finance and data, where clarity matters more than decoration.

  2. 02

    Design systems

Tokens, components and documentation shared by Figma and code, so the product stays consistent as teams grow.

  3. 03

    UX audits and redesigns

Evidence-led reviews of existing products, followed by changes that can be shipped and measured.

  4. 04

    Marketing sites with product depth

Websites that explain a technical offer clearly, built on the same system as the product.

  5. 05

    Brand identity for software companies

Identity, type and motion that hold up across the product, the site and the sales deck.

  6. 06

    Motion and interaction specs

Timing, easing and states specified precisely enough to build once.

02Services

Services and deliverables.

Concrete scopes with named outputs, so you know what you will hold at the end of each stage.

  • Research and UX audit

Interviews, analytics and heuristic review, turned into a prioritised list of problems with the evidence behind each.

    • Research findings
    • Journey maps
    • Prioritised issues
  • Product design

Flows, prototypes and production UI for web and mobile, tested before they are built at scale.

    • Clickable prototypes
    • Production UI
    • Usability test results
  • Design systems

Tokens and components built once in Figma and code, connected with Code Connect through the Figma MCP.

    • Token set
    • Component library
    • Usage documentation
  • Brand

Identity and guidelines for products and the company behind them.

03Live tool: Contrast and token playground

Check your palette.

Test text and background pairs against WCAG 2.2 contrast, then preview a type and spacing scale and copy it out as tokens.

04Lab standard

The A* standard for this lab.

On top of fixed-price discovery, a named lead, code you own, test gates, observability, written decisions and an SLA-backed run retainer, this lab adds:

  1. 01

Tokens shared by code and Figma

Colour, type, spacing and motion live in one token source used by both, so design and build never drift apart.

  2. 02

    Code Connect

Figma components map to real code components, so engineers see the implementation rather than a redraw.

  3. 03

    WCAG 2.2 AA components

Contrast, focus, keyboard and screen reader behaviour are designed and tested at component level.

  4. 04

    Usability tests with real users

Key flows are tested with people who match your users before they are built at scale.

  5. 05

    Visual regression on every release

Playwright screenshots catch unintended visual changes before they reach production.

05Human sign-off

Where people sign off.

Tools accelerate production. Taste, judgement and empathy with users remain the designer's job.

  • Brand strategyPositioning and brand decisions are made with your leadership team, in the room.
  • Research interviewsInterviews are run by people, who notice what users do not say.
  • Art directionA senior designer owns the visual judgement on every screen that ships.

06FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do you only design, or build as well?

Both. Design Lab works alongside Software Lab, so designs arrive as tokens and components that engineering uses directly.

Can you work with our existing design system?

Yes. We audit it for coverage, accessibility and drift between Figma and code, then extend it rather than replace it wherever we can.

What accessibility standard do you design to?

WCAG 2.2 AA as a minimum, tested with keyboard, screen readers and automated checks at component and page level.

Do you run user research?

Yes, from short usability rounds to discovery interviews. Research is sized to the decision it has to inform.
